Privacy Policy
What MississaugaWallet.ca collects, why, who else sees it, and how to shut it off. Written to be read, not skimmed past.
This policy explains how MississaugaWallet.ca handles personal information. We are an independent, unincorporated publication operating in Mississauga, Ontario, and we follow Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL). By using the site, its calculators, or its newsletter, you agree to what is described here.
The short version: we do not sell your personal information, we do not require an account to use anything on this site, and the figures you type into our calculators are processed in your browser and are not stored or transmitted to us.
Information You Give Us
Only what you actively send. That includes when you:
- Email us or submit a contact form
- Subscribe to the newsletter
- Post a comment on an article
- Report a correction or respond to a reader survey
Depending on which of those you do, this may include your name, email address, and whatever you choose to write in the message. Please do not send us account numbers, assessment notices, bills, or other sensitive financial documents — we do not need them and will delete them if they arrive.
Information Collected Automatically
Like nearly every website, our hosting and analytics tools log technical details of your visit:
- IP address (used for approximate region, then handled in aggregate)
- Browser type and version, device type, and operating system
- Pages viewed, time on page, and the path you took through the site
- The referring site or search that brought you here
- Approximate geographic region — typically city-level, never a precise location
Calculator inputs
The numbers you enter into our property tax estimator, affordability index, rent matcher, or any other tool on this site are processed in your own browser. They are not transmitted to us, stored on our servers, or associated with you. Closing the tab clears them.
How the Information Is Used
| What we collect | What we use it for |
|---|---|
| Your email and message | Replying to you, and processing corrections you report |
| Newsletter subscription | Sending the newsletter you asked for, and nothing else |
| Page and traffic analytics | Seeing which guides are useful, fixing broken pages, prioritizing what to update next |
| Technical and server logs | Keeping the site up, and blocking bots, scraping, and abuse |
| Advertising identifiers | Serving ads that fund the site, via third-party networks |
We do not sell, rent, trade, or licence your personal information to data brokers or any other third party. There is no version of this site where that changes without your explicit consent.
Cookies and Analytics
We use cookies and similar technologies for three purposes:
- Functional — remembering your inputs and preferences within a browsing session so tools do not reset as you navigate
- Analytics — Google Analytics, to understand aggregate traffic patterns and page performance
- Advertising — third-party ad and affiliate networks, to measure ad delivery and attribute referrals
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time. Doing so will not lock you out of anything, but some calculators may not retain values between pages and some charts may not render as intended.
04 / Third PartiesServices That Process Data on Our Behalf
Running this site requires outside services. Each has its own privacy policy governing what it does with the data it receives:
- Web hosting and content delivery infrastructure
- Google Analytics (traffic measurement)
- Google AdSense (display advertising)
- Amazon Associates and other affiliate programs (referral attribution)
- Our email delivery provider (newsletter sending and unsubscribe handling)
We do not control these providers’ internal practices and are not responsible for them. We may also disclose information where we are legally required to — for example, in response to a valid legal order — or where necessary to investigate abuse or protect the security of the site.
05 / AdvertisingAd Personalization and Your Choices
Third-party ad networks may use cookies or device identifiers to show ads based on your browsing history across sites. We do not choose, review, or endorse individual ads.
To manage behavioural advertising in Canada, use YourAdChoices Canada. You can also turn off ad personalization directly in your Google Ad Settings, or block advertising cookies in your browser.
Our commercial relationships and affiliate arrangements are disclosed in full in the Disclaimer, and the wall between advertising and editorial is set out in the Editorial Policy.
06 / EmailNewsletter and Communications
Newsletter subscriptions are double opt-in: you confirm by clicking a link in a verification email, so you cannot be signed up by someone else. Every email we send includes a working one-click unsubscribe link in the footer, and unsubscribing takes effect immediately.
We never rent, sell, or share the subscriber list. We only email you about MississaugaWallet.ca content — no third-party blasts, no partner offers sent on someone else’s behalf.
07 / Your RightsAccess, Correction, and Deletion
Under PIPEDA you have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected if it is wrong, to withdraw consent, and to have it deleted. Email info@mississaugawallet.ca and we will respond within 30 days.
In practice, for most readers the answer is that we hold nothing beyond aggregate analytics — we only have identifiable information about you if you emailed us, commented, or subscribed.
08 / HandlingRetention and Security
We keep information only as long as it serves the purpose it was collected for: correspondence for as long as needed to resolve the matter, newsletter details until you unsubscribe, analytics on our provider’s standard retention schedule.
The site is served over HTTPS and we apply standard access controls and monitoring. No system connected to the internet can be guaranteed secure, and information transmitted online is sent at your own risk. If a breach occurred that created a real risk of significant harm, we would notify affected individuals and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada as required by law.
09 / ScopeChildren’s Privacy
This site publishes adult consumer finance content. It is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, email us and we will delete it.
Data Location
Our hosting and service providers may store or process data outside Canada, including in the United States. Data stored in another country is subject to that country’s laws, including lawful access by its authorities.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy to reflect changes in the law or in how the site operates. The revision date at the top always reflects the current version, and changes take effect when posted. Material changes will be noted on the site.
